El Capitan

Inspired by: El Capitan, Yosemite National Park, California

What fascinated me most about El Capitan was the geometry of the wall. The sharp cuts, changing angles and repeated planes create a natural rhythm across the granite. I wanted to reflect that rhythm in this artwork, translating the proportions and placement of those forms into thread.

This artwork is inspired by the record-breaking speed ascent of El Capitan by Alex Honnold and Tommy Caldwell on June 6, 2018. Their climb of The Nose remains one of the most remarkable achievements in modern big-wall climbing.
