The Finnish Line

Inspired by: The Finnish Line, Rocklands, Cederberg, South Africa

Seeing The Finnish Line for the first time, what struck me most was the intensity of its colours. The dark greys, warm ochres and deep shadows blend together like the skin of a lion. Sharp breaks and sculpted volumes give the boulder a raw, untamed character. Rather than reproducing the climb itself, I wanted to translate that wild palette, its powerful contrasts and the feeling of untouched nature into thread.

The Finnish Line is an iconic 8C boulder in Rocklands, South Africa. First climbed by Nalle Hukkataival in 2017, it has become one of the world's most celebrated boulder problems, with repeats by climbers including Alex Megos, Jimmy Webb and Shawn Raboutou.
